The defence in the trial of Wayne O'Donoghue has suggested that the amount of force applied to Robert Holohan's neck was not excessive and that it was not maintained for any length of time.

Yesterday the State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, had said that studies had found that 15 to 30 seconds of constant compression was required to produce the injuries suffered by the 11-year-old boy.

Earlier, the jury in the trial watched part of a third video taped interview which he recorded with gardaí during his detention at Midleton Garda Station on 17 January last.

A transcript of part of that interview was also read to the jury.

During the interview Wayne O’Donoghue admits ringing Robert Holohan's phone after 9pm on the night he killed him because he said he wanted to keep up the pretence.

Wayne O'Donoghue denies murder but admits the manslaughter of Robert Holohan.
