George Best has been buried at Roselawn Cemetery in Belfast after a funeral service at Parliament Buildings in Stormont.
Earlier, as the coffin was carried out of the family home on the Cregagh Estate, there was a standing ovation from friends and neighbours.
A floral tribute bearing the word 'Legend' was placed inside the hearse. Thousands of people who lined the funeral route applauded as the hearse made its way through Belfast.
Many sporting figures attended the funeral including Sir Alex Ferguson, Barry McGuigan, Dennis Taylor, Martin O'Neill and Pat Jennings.
Among the wreaths that were placed at the foot of Parliament Buildings were tributes from the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, and from Manchester United.
