Irish people are planning to increase their spending this Christmas, while other Europeans are tightening their belts, according to a survey by the financial consultants, Deloitte.

On average, Irish consumers will spend 8% more than last year.

The strength of the economy is the reason for higher spending.

Three quarters of Irish people said they expected their income to improve or stay the same. Across Europe only half of those surveyed felt the same.

Irish people also top the list for planning to decorate their homes this Christmas, with 95% saying they will do so.
