In the first case of its kind in Co Clare two hotels and their director have been found guilty of employing 14 non-nationals without work permits.

The Hydro Hotel and the Imperial Hotel in Lisdoonvarna and their director Marcus White were found guilty and fined a total of €11,000 for being in breach of the Employment Permits Act.

After the hearing, the managing director of the hotels and former Fine Gael TD for Donegal South West, Jim White, strongly criticised the system of allocating permits and said that they were considering appealing the verdict.
