Jury directed in garda assault trial

A Circuit Court Judge has directed a Cork jury to find one of two gardaí on trial for assaulting a man in a patrol car not guilty.

The direction to find Garda John Alfred not guilty of assaulting Roy O'Donoghue on 6 September in Clonakilty came on the third day of the trial following legal argument before Judge Sean Ó Donnabhain.

Both Garda John Alfred and his colleague, Garda Jason Wallace, pleaded not guilty to assaulting Mr O'Donoghue when the case opened last Wednesday.

The case against Garda Wallace continues.
