Donegal man Gary McCrea has been found guilty of the murder of his estranged wife, Dolores, by a jury in the Central Criminal Court.
McCrea had denied murdering her and burning her body at the rear of their old family home.
During the trial, State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy said the cause of death could not be established because the body had been so badly burned.
The jury took over four and a half hours to return their unanimous verdict. McCrea now faces a life sentence.
Speaking after the guilty verdict was announced, the couple’s eldest daughter, Sharon McCrea, said the family was relieved that the trial was at an end, and she said justice had been done.
She said two families, the McCreas and Dolores's family the McGrorys had been victims of the incident.
She said Dolores McCrea had been a mother, a daughter, a friend and a sister who would never be forgotten.
She thanked the local people who had supported the family since their mother's death and she asked that her three younger sisters be allowed to move on with their lives without the glare of publicity.
