The High Court action taken by Frank McBrearty Jr against the State was formally struck out of the High Court today.
Outside the court Mr McBrearty displayed the €1.5m cheque which he received in settlement.
He received the cheque, dated 15 September, under the terms of settlement of his long running action against the gardaí and the State for wrongful and false arrest and malicious prosecution in late 1996.
Mr McBrearty Jr said that while his action has been settled, other actions have still to come before the courts.
