The Minister for Justice, Michael McDowell, has ordered the release of a Nigerian woman and put a stay on her deportation pending further consideration of her case.

Olivia Agbon Lahor has been living in Clonakilty with her four-year-old twins, one of whom is believed to be autistic, and was arrested this morning by gardaí.

Local people had called on the minister to stop her deportation because her son would not receive necessary treatment in Nigeria.

Ms Lahor fled from Italy, where it is claimed she received death threats because her journalist husband wrote an article which exposed a drugs baron.
