An organisation set up to advise the Government on the detention of children has raised concerns about holding them near, or at the same place as, adult inmates.
A report issued by the Special Residential Services Board said progress had been made in the provision of spaces for children who were non-offenders, of special care units and of 90 beds in high support residential areas.
SRSB Chief Executive Roger Killeen told RTÉ Radio's Morning Ireland that he was concerned by a report in today's Irish Times that 147 juveniles had been placed in adult prisons since the beginning of this year.
