SRSB concerns over children's detention

An organisation set up to advise the Government on the detention of children has raised concerns about holding them near, or at the same place as, adult inmates.

A report issued by the Special Residential Services Board said progress had been made in the provision of spaces for children who were non-offenders, of special care units and of 90 beds in high support residential areas.

SRSB Chief Executive Roger Killeen told RTÉ Radio's Morning Ireland that he was concerned by a report in today's Irish Times that 147 juveniles had been placed in adult prisons since the beginning of this year.
