Donegal murder trial opens

A Co Donegal man has gone on trial accused of murdering his wife and burning her body.

Gary McCrea, 40, from Lahey, pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to murdering his estranged wife, Dolores, in January last year.

Today, the court heard the remains of her body were found burning on Mr McCrea's property and dental records matched those of his missing wife.

Opening the case for the prosecution, Paul O’Higgins, SC, said the evidence against the accused would be circumstantial.

The trial is expected to last a number of days.
