The union, which represents Ireland's driver testers, IMPACT has said that is surprised at Martin Cullen's announcement that he plans to outsource driving tests to a private company.
The proposal is part of the Transport Minister’s plan to clear the backlog of 130,000 people seeking driving tests. The minister’s plans were fully backed by the Government today.
He also proposes to recruit more testers and incentivise existing examiners.
Earlier, Mr Cullen said despite union concerns, members’ terms and conditions would not be adversely affected.
However, IMPACT says the issue is currently in a disputes process.
It added that plans to outsource the work breach the Sustaining Progress agreement, which allows recourse to the Labour Relations Commission on disputes about such issues.
