The European Space agency has confirmed that a satellite designed to monitor how climate change was affecting the Earth's ice masses has been lost.
The Cryosat spacecraft was launched from northern Russia but failed to send a signal to mission controllers and crashed into the Arctic Ocean minutes later.
Radar tracking stations are searching for the satellite which Russian authorities believe has been lost near the North Pole.
