Officer accused of selling garda uniforms

A garda stationed in Dublin has been arrested for allegedly stealing garda uniforms and selling them to a film or theatre production company.

The garda was detained and questioned last Monday at Kilmainham Garda Station for seven hours. He has also been suspended from duty.

A file on the case has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The officer, who was stationed at Pearse Street in central Dublin, has 25 years' experience.

It is understood an investigation began after a former partner made a complaint about his alleged activities.

The garda is suspected of stealing tunics, trousers, belts and shirts and selling them to a named individual working for a film or theatre production company.

It is believed over 50 uniforms may have been stolen and sold over the past few years.
