Judith Miller of the New York Times, who was jailed nearly three months ago for refusing to co-operate with a US federal inquiry, has testified before a grand jury today.
The jury is investigating who in the Bush administration leaked the name of undercover CIA operative Valerie Plame to the media.
In a statement, the New York Times said Ms Miller had agreed to testify after her source voluntarily released her from her promise of confidentiality regarding their conversations.
As a result, she was released from prison last night.
