Cork has broken the record for the world's biggest Céilí currently held by Dublin, Ohio.
8,371 people danced the Siege of Ennis for the required five minutes, at sites along the South Mall and Grand Parade.
Lord of the Dance Michael Flatley, who did the countdown into the dance, did not dance but chose instead to play the flute alongside the Kilfenora Céilí Band.
Officially confirmation for the Guinness Book of Records will take a number of weeks.
Organizers say they are absolutely delighted that so many people got into the spirit of the event.
