The Cabinet has held what was described as a brief and informal discussion on the issues raised by the Eddie Hobbs Rip-off Republic programme on RTÉ One.
A Government spokesperson said ministers had agreed that the focus of the Government's attention should be on consumer pricing which is the central issue dealt with in the programme.
The issue is to be dealt with by the new National Consumer Agency.
Ministers also raised concerns that some of the statistics used in the programme may have been inaccurate.
The spokesperson said the figures used would be looked at, but stressed that no formal complaint was to be pursued with RTÉ if any inaccuracies were to be found.
