Irish Ferries - Workers in compensation case

Two Filipino beauticians who worked for Irish Ferries for €1 an hour each had their Labour Court case adjourned today.

A SIPTU spokesman says they need time to respond to the claim by Irish Ferries that the ferry company is not liable because the women were hired through the recruitment company C F Sharp.

The women, Jovita Corporal and Cynthia Archillia, are claiming €25,000 each for loss of their jobs on the Merchant Vessel (MV) Normandy last March.

They were flown home to the Philippines as controversy arose about similar pay rates for another Filipino woman, Salvicion Orge, on board the MV Isle of Innismor.

The women, who are in the Philippines, claim they have not been able to find work since then. No date has been set for a new hearing.
