Christopher Newman has been given a life sentence for the murder of a 28-year-old Co Wicklow woman in Dublin two years ago.

Georgina Eager was found stabbed to death at a house in St Peter's Road in Walkinstown in May 2003.

Newman, who is 63, was subsequently arrested in London. He had denied murder, but admitted killing her.

He was found guilty of murder this afternoon by the jury at his trial in London.

Judge Jonathon Van Der Werf recommended that he serve at least fourteen years in jail.

This morning, the judge told the jury of seven men and four women that they had to ask themselves a number of questions.

Judge Van Der Werf said that if they believed that Mr Newman intended to kill Ms Eager, that the act was unlawful, and that the prosecution has proved he was not acting in self-defence, then Mr Newman was guilty of murder.

He also said to the jury they must now decide what happened between Mr Newman and Ms Eager over the number of months before the murder and in particular on the morning she was killed.
