Gardaí in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, have launched a murder inquiry following the discovery of a man's body in the town last night.
Mick Creighton, 82, was found dead at his apartment on Castle Street in Mullingar.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have seen the man between 11am on Friday morning and 4.30pm yesterday afternoon to contact them.
A post mortem on the man's body has revealed that he suffered extensive wounds to his body.
