The Government has nominated the barrister Paulyn Marrinan Quinn as the first Ombudsman for the Defence Forces.
The Minister for Defence, Willie O'Dea, said the introduction of the office and the appointment of Ms Marrinan Quinn were very significant developments in the history of the Defence Forces.
The representative association, PDFORRA, has welcomed the appointment.
