An Irish student and a British holidaymaker were among five people killed in the popular tourist resort of Kusadasi, in Turkey, this morning.

The bomb exploded on a minibus while it was ferrying tourists to a local beach.

It is understood the Irish girl was in her late teens and had recently completed her Leaving Certificate. Her identity has not yet been released.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs has condemned the attack and has called on Turkish authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Dermot Ahern also extended his deepest sympathies to the victim's family.

The Taoiseach has also condemned the attack, saying once such terrorists have no place in society.

Bertie Ahern said his thoughts and prayers are with those caught up in the atrocity.

Meanwhile, the Government has warned all Irish citizens in Turkey, or those planning to travel there, to exercise caution and to be vigilant at all times.

During the peak summer season it is estimated there are between 5,000-5,500 Irish tourists in the Kusadasi region.

There are currently 1,200 Irish holidaymakers in the region with the tour operator Sunworld.
