Dublin - Man charged with student's murder

A 25-year-old man has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a Chinese student in Rialto in south Dublin last week.

Derek Wade of Church Avenue South in Rialto was remanded to Clover Hill Prison to appear at Clover Hill District Court next Tuesday.

At Kilmainham District Court this morning, Judge John Coughlan granted legal aid to Mr Wade, who is unemployed.

The family of the dead student, Song Zhi, were visibly distressed on leaving the court after flying in from Beijing yesterday to be present at the hearing.

The man’s mother, Zhiang Chun Siang, had to be helped away from the courthouse.

Mr Song Zhi was fatally stabbed at his home in Reuben Avenue in Rialto in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
