The UVF is being blamed for this morning's fatal shooting of a man in East Belfast.

The victim, who was in his 20s, was known to the police and was associated with people linked to the rival loyalist paramilitary group, the LVF.

He had been attacked and threatened in the past and his name recently appeared on graffiti in the Shankill Road area.

He was in the cab of a lorry removing rubble from a former bar on the Newtownards Road when he was shot.

Local people say he was shot four times in the chest at around 10am. Ambulances were called but the man died at the scene.

The victim was apparently working for a demolition company working at the site of the former Avenue One Bar.

The pub had been owned by the ousted UDA leader in the area, Jim Gray, and was sold earlier this year.
