Gardaí have stressed that the current occupants of a house, at the centre of an investigation in south Co Dublin, are in no way connected with the probe.

An excavation is underway, in the back garden of the house in Dalkey, as part of an investigation dating back over 30 years.

It is linked to ongoing enquiries into the discovery of the body of a baby girl in a laneway in Dún Laoghaire in April 1973.

Gardaí are looking into the possibility that the body of a second infant, believed to be a boy, may be buried in Dalkey.
