The man assaulted with Robert McCartney in Magennis's Bar in Belfast in January has received a seven-year sentence for his part in a robbery of cash in transit at a post office in the south of the city.

Brendan Devine, from Mayfield Village in Glengormley, was one of three men sentenced at Belfast Crown Court this afternoon.

His co-accused were John O'Connor from Ardoyne Avenue, and William Evans from Albert Street in Belfast.

Mr Devine had his throat slashed and received stab wounds to the stomach in a row with IRA men in Magennis's Bar.

Robert McCartney died in an effort to protect Mr Devine on the same night.
