A public inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the murder of the loyalist leader, Billy Wright, opened in Belfast today.
LVF leader Wright was shot dead in the Maze prison by an INLA inmate in December 1997.
His father has claimed his son was set up by people in authority.
Billy Wright had just got into a prison van to be taken to the visitors' area when an INLA prisoner climbed over the roof of the H-block and entered the prison yard. He opened the van door, singled out Wright and shot him several times.
The public inquiry was announced by Paul Murphy, the then Northern Secretary, in November 2004 following a report on the shooting by the retired Canadian judge, Peter Cory.
The inquiry is being chaired by Lord McClean, a retired judge from Scotland.
He is being joined by Professor Andree Coyle from the University of London and the former Bishop of Hereford, the Reverend John Oliver.
