Gardaí have appealed to members of the country's gay community to come forward and report crimes against them.
The force's Deputy Commissioner, Peter Fitzgerald, said gardaí were trying to establish the scale of anti-gay crime to ensure it was properly dealt with.
He was speaking at the start of a poster campaign aimed at forging stronger links between gardaí and the gay community as part of Gay Pride Week.
