A new study by the Economic and Social Research Institute has found that people with disabilities are twice as likely to be poor as the rest of the population, and one in seven has to cope daily without basic necessities.
The report also found that people with disabilities were four times less likely to have a qualification past primary level and were half as likely to have reached third level.
The report was carried out by the ESRI on behalf of the Equality Authority and the National Disability Authority. It was launched by the Minister for Social and Family Affairs, Seamus Brennan.
The Chief Executive of the Equality Authority, Niall Crowley, says all anti-poverty measures should be reviewed to benefit people with disabilities in light of the report's findings.
