Gardaí have begun a 48-hour nationwide clampdown on traffic offences.
The move follows the deaths of six people in road accidents at the weekend.
The crackdown is aimed at curbing the rise in road accidents and is targeting all traffic offences.
Patrols are monitoring driver behaviour on eight national road corridors and are employing helicopter surveillance to seek out motorists committing traffic violations.
Top of the list of offences which gardaí are targeting include drink driving, speeding, not wearing seat belts and dangerous driving.
However, patrols are also on the lookout for minor offences. Covert patrolling is being carried out as well as the setting up of checkpoints.
The operation is covering routes from Galway to Dublin, Cork to Limerick, Buncrana to Sligo and other major roads.
