A 23-year-old French student is critically ill in hospital after she was attacked in Dublin last night.
The woman, a marketing student at the Dublin Business School, has been in the country for the past three years.
She was entering her flat at Bertram Court near Christchurch Cathedral when she was set upon by a man at about 7.30pm.
She was stabbed several times and left on the doorstep of the complex with severe injuries.
Gardaí say they have yet to establish a motive for the attack, which they say was unprovoked and brutal.
They are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward.
