It has been confirmed that a 35-year-old man from south Armagh is to be charged with the murders of 29 people, including the mother of unborn twins, in the 1998 Omagh bomb massacre.

Electrician Sean Gerard Hoey from Molly Road in Jonesboro is currently in custody on terrorist related charges.

He faces 20 counts of possession of explosive devices and associated charges relating to explosions in towns including Newry and Banbridge.

He was due to make a bail application at the High Court in Belfast today, but his lawyer sought an adjournment in light of further pending judicial proceedings.

His lawyer said it was his understanding that formal charge papers in relation to the Omagh bombing would be served on his client by 19 May, while a preliminary court hearing would take place a week later on 26 May.

Additional forensic reports relating to the evidence against Mr Hoey will be presented on that date.

The application for bail was subsequently adjourned.
