A US-based support group for sexual abuse victims protested in Rome today against the Vatican's decision to allow a cardinal accused of covering up cases of clerical sex abuse to lead a memorial mass for Pope John Paul II.
Cardinal Bernard Law resigned as Archbishop of Boston in 2002 following accusations that he covered up the abuse of children by priests.
The protestors handed out pamphlets at the Basilica of St Mary Major where Cardinal Law was the principal celebrant in this evening's Mass.
Today's was the fourth of nine masses in memory of Pope John Paul. One is celebrated each day of the official mourning period.
