Gardaí are investigating what they describe as a suspicious death in Dundalk.

The body of a 43-year-old woman was found in a house on Demesne Road earlier today. The alarm was raised around lunchtime.

The dead woman has been named as Irene White from Ice house in Demesne, in Dundalk.

The two-storey house, near the town centre, has been sealed off.

State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy has carried out a preliminary post mortem at the scene. The body has been removed to Louth County Hospital where a full post mortem examination will take place.

It is believed that the woman was a mother of three children, aged 17, six and four. She was last seen dropping the children off to school this morning.

It is understood her remains were found by her 70-year-old mother who lives in a mobile home at the rear of the house.
