Gardaí believe the murder of a man in Dublin last night was connected to a personal dispute.
The victim, a 42-year-old, was a kickboxing champion. He was originally from the south inner city but was living with his partner in the north city.
He was shot in the head as he was having a drink in the Green Lizard pub on Francis Street between The Coombe and Thomas Street West just before 10pm.
Gardaí said it was a cruel and reckless killing and they believe that a number of shots may have been fired but no one else in the pub was hit.
They described the killer as a tall, middle-aged man with grey hair. He was in the pub for a short time before the killing and escaped on foot onto Francis Street.
There were about 30 people in the bar at the time taking part in a karaoke session. The area was sealed off for forensic examination and traffic diversions were in place this morning.
A post mortem examination was due to be carried out today on the victim’s body.
Detectives are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 01-6669400.
