A rally held in the Short Strand area of Belfast earlier today was attended by hundreds of people.

The rally was in support of the McCartney family. Robert McCartney was stabbed and beaten to death outside a bar in Belfast on 30 January.

The Provisional IRA have said the organisation was not involved in the killing, but has said that a number of republicans were involved. Three members of the IRA were expelled as a result.

Paula McCartney, the dead man's sister, again called for 'justice and truth'.

She thanked the local community for its support and again demanded that all those involved in her brothers murder do the honourable and patriotic thing and hand themselves in.

One of the speakers at the rally, Eamonn McCann, said those who murdered Robert McCartney had brought themselves to the same level as British Paratroopers in Derry on Bloody Sunday.

Police arrested one man yesterday in connection with the murder after he turned up at Musgrave Street Station in Belfast with his solicitor. He was later released without charge.
