A Deputy Garda Commissioner is to lead a United Nations team investigating the assassination of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri.
Deputy Commissioner Peter Fitzgerald is expected to leave for Beirut in the next few days.
Mr Fitzgerald has already served with the UN in Bosnia and Central America.
Mr Hariri died in west Beirut on Monday following an explosion that also killed 14 others.
