A court in Cork has been told that a man living in the county for the past 20 years had more than 11,000 child pornographic images on his computer when his house was raided as part of Operation Amethyst in 2002.
Francis Daams, who is originally from Holland but now lives in Durrus in west Cork, had pleaded guilty at a previous sitting of Cork Circuit Court to possession of child pornography.
Investigating gardaí said today that Daams had 11,534 images on his computers when they raided his house in May 2002.
It is understood to be the largest number of child pornographic images discovered at a single location during that nationwide raid.
Sentencing of the 56-year-old married man was adjourned until June pending further psychological reports.
