Two in court over drugs seizure in Dublin

Two men have appeared at Kilmainham District Court in Dublin charged in connection with a major drugs seizure at Dublin Port yesterday.

The two men, 35-year-old Michael Maskell and 33-year-old David Coles, each with an address at Saffron Walden in Essex, England, were charged with possession of drugs and possession with intent to sell and supply.

They have been remanded in custody to appear at Clover Hill District Court next Wednesday.

It emerged earlier that drugs squad and customs officers had seized a large quantity of the hallucinogenic drug LSD and a firearm at Dublin Port.

Gardaí believe the drugs, with a street value of more than €600,000, were due to be delivered to Limerick criminal gangs.

It is the first time in years that LSD has been seized in Ireland. It came in sheets of paper.

This was a joint operation between customs officers and the Garda National Drugs Unit.

Gardaí believe the lorry was on the continent last week and the drugs were picked up in Holland before being brought to Ireland.
