Co Limerick drug courier jailed for ten years

A Co Limerick drug courier caught with up to €2.3 million worth of cocaine, ecstasy and amphetamines has been sentenced to ten years in jail.

Patrick Ford, 32, from Pallasgreen pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to having the drugs in his truck on the Old Airport Road in Dublin in December 2003.

He received a concurrent five-year sentence for putting some of the proceeds into bank, post office and credit union accounts.

His wife, 28-year-old Valerie McKane from England, received a one-year sentence for similar offences of money laundering.

The State will now attempt to seize around €40,000 from bank accounts that it believes Ford earned from seven previous drug runs.
