The Co Louth man, Colm Murphy, whose conviction for conspiring to cause the Omagh bombing was quashed by the Appeal Court last week, has been freed on bail.
The 52-year-old has also been granted the costs of the first trial, which lasted for 22 days and resulted in him being jailed for 14 years. Counsel for the Director of Public Prosecutions earlier said he was not opposing Colm Murphy's application for these costs. Mr Murphy will also receive legal aid for the re-trial.
The husband of one of the Omagh bomb victims, Lawrence Rush, made an impassioned plea in court earlier today for Mr Murphy's bail to be refused.
Mr Murphy had nothing to say as he left the court today. His daughter, Leonora, did make a statement. She described the Omagh bombing as a terrible atrocity which should never have happened but also one that had destroyed her father's life. She said the family will not stop until her father's name has been completely cleared.
