Figures published by the gardaí indicate that during the drink driving Christmas campaign 1,622 people were arrested for drink driving.
This represents an increase of 64 or 4% compared to the same period last year.
2,262 people were breath tested for alcohol, up from 1,794 for the previous campaign, an increase of 26%.
19,415 motorists were detected speeding over the same period while 2,818 cases of non-wearing of seat belts were detected.
