A man has been charged with the manslaughter 11-year-old Robert Holohan on 4 January at a sitting of Midleton District Court.

Wayne O'Donoghue of Ballyedmond has been remanded in custody to Cork prison to appear again before Midleton District Court on Thursday next.

He was brought to the courthouse this evening having been questioned throughout the day.

Robert's disappearance thirteen days ago sparked the biggest search for a missing person this country has ever seen.

Earlier today gardaí extended Mr O'Donoghue's period of detention for another six hours.

Robert Holohan was found dead last Wednesday afternoon near Inch Strand in east Cork, about 12 miles from his Ballyedmond home. He had been missing since Tuesday 4 January.

A post-mortem examination showed that he died of asphyxiation but that he had not been sexually assaulted.
