Eileen Desmond, the former Labour Party TD and Government minister, was buried today in Crosshaven cemetery after a Requiem Mass at Carrigaline in Cork.
The former Minister for Health and Social Welfare and MEP for Munster was buried alongside her husband, Dan.
Mrs Desmond was the first woman Minister for Health and only the second woman ever to be made a member of the Cabinet. She died last Friday at the age of 72.
Mrs Desmond is survived by her daughters, Honor and Paula.
