The search for an 11-year-old boy who has been missing from his home near Midleton in Co Cork since yesterday afternoon has been called off for tonight.

More than 300 people were involved in the search today along with gardaí, civil defence teams and a coastguard helicopter.

Gardaí are appealing for volunteers to join the search when it is expected that the garda air support, sub aqua and dog units, as well as troops will resume the operation tomorrow.

It will begin at the East Cork golf club near Midleton, at around 8am.

Robert Holohan left his home on his BMX bicycle and has not been seen since. He is described as 4'11'' in height and was wearing a black jacket with 'Nike' written in orange on the back with black track-suit bottoms.
