Gardaí say 567 people have been arrested for suspected drink driving since the Christmas road safety campaign began three weeks ago.
The figure represents an increase of 3% compared to 2003.
765 people were breath tested during the first two weeks, nearly 50% more than last year.
The number of people killed on the roads has also increased.
15 people died in road accidents in the first two weeks of the campaign, compared to 11 for 2003.
The Government plans to introduce new laws to allow random breath testing next year.
