Limerick city centre - Barman is shot

Gardaí are still trying to establish a motive for last night's incident in Limerick city centre in which a barman was shot and wounded.

The gunman, who was wearing a motorcycle helmet, entered Brannigan's pub on Mulgrave Street in the city shortly before 10pm last night.

He fired at least one shot - hitting the barman in the leg. He then escaped on a motorbike.

It is believed another shot was fired by a pillion passenger when the pub's owner gave chase. The barman is said to be in a stable condition.
