The Tánaiste has said that the killers of Garda Jerry McCabe do not fall under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement, and that the government is clear about that.
She said the Minister for Justice has indicated to Anne McCabe and the Garda Representative Association that there will be no change in government policy without discussions with her, Ben Sullivan and the GRA.
Mary Harney said that clearly, in the context of an end to paramilitarism in all its aspects, the government may take a different view, but that situation has not yet arisen and until it does, the government is not going to negotiate on this matter.
