Gardaí recover stolen diamonds

Gardaí in Dublin have recovered €150,000 worth of diamonds which were stolen in the city late this afternoon.

A jewellery salesman was attacked in Gardiner Street and the bag of diamonds was taken from him at around 5pm this afternoon.

Two hours later, gardaí manning a checkpoint as part of Operation Crossover stopped a van on the Hartstown Road in west Dublin.

They found the diamonds hidden among bags of carrots and other vegetables in the back of the van.

One man in his 40s has been arrested. He is now being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act and being questioned at Blanchardstown Garda Station.
