Increase in Dublin city waste charges

Dublin city residents face an increase in waste collection charges following last night's approval of the City Council budget.

The measure includes a controversial change in the way waste charges are paid.

The current charge for waste disposal is €195 per year.

Under the new system, householders who have their bins collected every week can expect to pay €340 a year - almost double the current charge.

The controversial charge was adopted after agreement from the City Manager to provide more money for flood prevention and to review the waste collection process by the end of February.
