Dublin councils crack down on illegal waste

Householders in Dublin are being warned they face prosecution if they allow their waste to be taken away for disposal by a contractor who does not have a licence.

The four local authorities now have a dedicated enforcement team which will be stopping illegal waste transporters and identifying where the waste came from.

The national papers today feature advertisements from Dublin's four council's which warn they are to crack down on the major problem of illegal transport and disposal of waste.

The message to Dublin's householders is that they need to be aware whether the person taking away any waste from their property has a proper licence.

A dedicated waste enforcement team is now organising spot checks on the capital's roads with the gardaí.

An absence of a proper licence will mean problems for not only the transporter but the person who gave them the waste in the first place.
